2020 - Aluminium sound object, speaker: 6cm x 12cm x 12cm, box: 30cm x 15cm x 10cm

Our breathing betrays both our physical and mental condition. When overwhelmed by fear, a breath becomes an almost foreign entity.

Filter is an aluminium sound object. It resembles a respiratory mask and a muzzle, as well as an industrial ventilator. Mounted on a wall it becomes a part of the architecture, just another element in a larger system. As you approach you can feel the air softly vibrate with a dull heartbeat and slow breathing. The sound is faintly pneumatic, muffled and distant, as if inside the helmet of a spacesuit. This is my own heart and lungs recorded with a stethoscope.
